Leap Year

It feel so strange that every four years we get an extra day. It feels like it should be a special day, to remind ourselves of what and who we love and do something out of the ordinary... Unfortunately for me I am at work but I may try to mix it up a bit, may treat myself to getting the train home rather than bus, ha ha! Have an interview tomorrow afternoon, so nervous about it but its a good opportunity and I need to man up and do my best. I have lots of goodies to bring to the market tomorrow, a lovely 1950's pleated rayon with silk skirt, a lovely 1940's black dress a very classic piece, five pairs of vintage farrah slacks, vintage YSL mens shirts and lots of lovely womens sepeates!

Really looking foward to my roasted red pepper and tomato soup made for me by the lovely Sandra and tomorrow my best friend Paula is providing the market cake!

Pin-Up Love!

I have got really interested in the history of the pin-up, so much vintage clothing was based around designing for these glamorous ladies that you can't help but get a tad mesmerised by them. The actual detailing into the refined artwork goes above and beyond some of the illustrations we see today and there is a real sense of bashful erotica charged through each image. The colours and textures used are deliberately evocative and I feel they encompass and vulnerable sexuality. I love the whole culture surrounding it and the way these images were used from anything to advertising through to encouraging young men to fight at war.

Monday

Well I have been a rubbish blogger this weekend... the reason being a long overdue trip down memory lane... A seaside adventure to Brighton to collect the rest of my vintage goodies and spend some time with some old friends. The whole thing has quite overwhelmed me and I think it is going to take this week to recover.

Lots of Love xx

Sheffield

Hallam Fm is playing the songs of my youth this morning! It's crazy, every song that's being played I can relay to something that happened in my delightful teenage years!
Here is what's been played so far...

Yesterday

We had a huge donation a few weeks ago from an elderly lady who had passed away and her son had just bought all of personal belongings to us. Yesterday I found some letters in a handbag and initially I felt a wave of guilt for reading them because thet were deeply personal love letters, then I thought about it and I have sent love letters, letters of sheer desperation before and I quite liked the idea that in 40 years time someone might find them, read them and feel something, even if it was embarassment about my sorry state of affairs.

The woman had lost a very deep love when she was young and then out of the blue he had got in touch with her and said he had made a huge mistake and missed her. She had since maried and had children, lost her husband and become lonely so when this lover had got in touch with her she seemed to feel a wave of excitement that had become so unfamiliar to her that she didn't even recognise that it was a flash of love.

The letters were so well written, I knew that her son woulldn't have read them so I passed them back to him yesterday evening and after reading the first one he actually had tears in his eyes. He told me that his mother had actually married the man in question, Paul, and he had died the week before she had. He said that when they had married, 27 years ago, they had vowed to never be without each other again. Her son, although he missed his mother deeply, knew she was with the right person now. Honestly I am crying whilst typing this now because it is probably the most romantic and poignant story I've ever heard.

To have someone love you from afar even when there was no hope of anything coming of it and then managing to build that life together form no hope at all is so wonderful.... So for all those people who have lost love out there remember you never know what is around the corner xx

Porn Star Name

I have had a lovely day at the shop today. I've changed the window display to a woodland fairies theme, using some silve birch we found, painted bird houses and lovely old gardening books then the front of store clothes rail is all creams, greens and browns and the lady mannequin is wearing gardening clothes and gloves with a huge floppy straw hat. I am on my own now so I have been thinking about the important things in life... Porn Star names, They say it should be your pets first name and then your mothers maiden name. Well I have decided to think up my own and I have settled on Cookie Sucksalot! xx

Sping

Well it is a lovely spring day today, still a bit cold but lovely nonethless... I would do a spring clean of all my stock but vintage clothes aren't really dictated to a season. I bought some lovely glassware from the car boot this morning and a stratton compact with an inscription on it. It is so lovely, the fron is cream with dusky pink roses in the centre. I think I'm in love with it. I am going to photograph some of my stock later for a little article Vintage Life are doing on collectors, someone had seen my blog and got in touch with me yesterday. I will post some of the photo's this week then I will post the article link in May xx

Saturday Reds

I am tired today... I don't have the blues, to quote Breakfast at Tiffany's, I have the mean reds.  Life is very complicated at the moment, sometimes in a good way sometimes in bad, I'm going to cheers my gloomy Saturday up with some friends round for tapas tonight and of course cocktails. But for now I am in the shop listening to Peggy Lee, uplifting, soothing and seeped in the old fashioned foot popping romnace we all crave so much.

Hope you are having simply splendid saturdays xx

Really Interesting Article x

Blast from the Past

Well I was scouting round some of the charity shops on Ecclesall Road yesterday for some lovely vintage bargains and I came across a real blast rom the past....
When I was little I had a beautiful Sindy Doll's House. It was huge and I had such lovely furniture for it. It was probably one of the best presents you could get a little girl.
Well I was in the Marie Curie shop and I stumbled across lots of the furniture that I used to have. It was so expensive and I actually have no use for it so I couldn't begin to justify buying it but I couldn't resist taking some pictures so here we are...

The difference between me and you....

Don't worry everyone...

I have written a comprehensive letter of complaint to Snack a Jacks and Tesco's outlining my concerns!
I miss my valentine, I shouldn't be at work I should be blissfully happy somewhere with him xx

Cup a Soups

Right I'm sorry about this ranting but I'm really struggling to understand where slim-a-soups have gone? Does anyone know? This is really interferring with my weird lunch time habits, I don't enjoy eating a lot during the day. A pack of snack a jacks and a cuppa soup is all good for me. But can I find the slim-a-soups in Tesco's... NO... accordingto the unhelpful sales assistant all cuppa soups are low calorie, WHATEVS! x

Snack a Jacks

I think Snack a Jacks are ripping me off.The other day I bought my weekly multipack of salt and vinegar and there were 5 packs, perfect for the working week. But yesterday I bought a multipack from Tesco's, 10p more expensive than last weeks multipack and this morning I am shocked to discover it is a 4 pack... WTF! x

One of the best films ever made!

If you ever feel lost and confused the best thing you could do to cheer yourself up is to find something, paint it pink and slap some cupcake crap on it! Happy Valentines Day x

Love Letters

There is something so elegant about sending a love letter. There is also the derranged side of it. You can write anything down that your heart and pen will allow but sending those thoughts and feelings isn't always the best thing to do. Trust me over the years my Jane Austen sensibilities and leanings have not always been appreciated. But I think I would always prefer to receive a love letter than not know how someone is feeling about me...
